🚀 Momentum Builds with Syzygies 2026
Astrophotographer, author, and cancer-survivor-extraordinaire Glenn Sturm has long merged art, resilience, and science. With four books under his belt—including Cancer Set Me Free and “Warriors Hate War”—Glenn’s latest is a deep dive into eclipse photography. Syzygies – Capturing the Hiding Sun is more than a coffee-table showpiece; it’s a technical guide revealing his exact camera settings, artistic decisions, and vision. Released this past spring, the book has ignited tremendous excitement, especially as plans ramp up for the 2026 Spanish eclipse.

Syzygies 2026 will include 3 celestial events that Glenn and the team have captured. Those events are: The New Mexico Annular Eclipse—2023, The Great North American Eclipse—2024, The Easter Island Annular Eclipse—2024. The book is currently in production and scheduled for release in january.
🇪🇸 Why Spain? Why 2026?
On August 12, 2026, the Moon’s shadow will sweep across northern Spain and the Balearic Islands. From iconic locales like Zaragoza, Mallorca, and Alcañiz, sky-watchers have a solid chance—around 75%—of clear skies. With the Sun low over the western horizon during totality, the scene will be unlike anything captured during eclipses that rise or set higher in the sky.
Locations:
- Alcañiz (Aragon): offers castle and hilltop views, narrow but dramatic totality.
- Mallorca (Soller/Port de SĂłller): near the end of the eclipse path with coastal vistas, optimal weather.
- Northern Spain (e.g., Zaragoza, Valencia): elevated rural terrain, low light pollution, perfect Perseid meteor viewing post-eclipse.
🎥 Glenn’s Vision: Photographing Totality from Spain
Glenn has made eclipses a central passion since 2017. He and his collaborator, Brittany Lunsford Kurz, pursued locations, studied sun tracks, and refined technique for eclipse photography. With Syzygies, they open their toolkit to “teach you to shoot eclipses like a professional”—complete with metadata and tutorials.
Their Spain plan involves:
- Scouting vantage points: leveraging Glenn’s landscape skill to frame the eclipse against iconic backdrops—castles, coastlines, or countryside.
- Optimizing timing: rehearsing sequences from first-to-last contact, especially dramatic Bailey’s Beads.
- Gear & logistics: refining exposure bracketing, filters, tracking mounts—everything laid out in Syzygies.
